Juan of a kind!

The Philosophy of Juan Tamariz

(and how it impacts my life)

There is this magical little man, known as Juan Tamariz Martel Negron. I call him Gazpachito.

A fine friend, John Carey, asked me to write about Juan, his philosophy and how it impacts my life. Prior to a discussion with Juan, I decided that his philosophy on magic, performance and life can be summed up in one word: [Read more…]

How I met Juan Tamariz

By Jim Krenz Leave a Comment

Juan Tamariz Painting“I have two books that you should read….” were the first words out of Jay's mouth, as he walked through the front door of Magic, Inc. There was no “Hello,” or “How are you?” just the above statement. He had just returned from F.I.S.M. carrying a suit bag, which he promptly opened. He placed two red hardbound books in front of me, and proceeded to go into the depths of the shop without further comment.

It's rare that Jay Marshall will recommend anything to me without my prior inquisition, so this immediately caught my attention…. [Read more…]

By Jim Krenz Leave a Comment

If you have never seen Juan Tamariz perform in his native language on his own television show, you need to rush over to Magicana's screening room.

Over eighteen hours(!) of one(!) of Juan's tv shows are online, and the number of amazing guest magicians is nothing short of spectacular!!!

The World’s First Titanium Card Clip

By Jim Krenz Leave a Comment

“A strong clip made of a magical metal that feels refined and elegant.”

The Titanium Card Clip has surpassed my previous favorite (which was Dan and Dave's brass version of the Jennings/Porper card clip). Titanium is a magical metal. It has amazing strength, yet is surprisingly light in weight.

The finish is refined and the thinness accentuates its simple elegance. The clip is so thin, one might be worried that it will bend with use—but Titanium is more than up to the task of endurance. This is a tool that will last a lifetime.

The best part is that my decks slide smoothly into and out of the Titanium Clip—much smoother than aluminum or brass clips. This is a classy clip, and I have to say that I am extemely proud to own it. My highest recommendation.

A review of reviews

By Jim Krenz Leave a Comment

What is most important to you when it comes to reading a magic review?

Questions that I believe need to be asked of each product:

  • Can this fool my audiences?
  • Can this entertain my audiences?
  • Is it practical/will it go into my act?

The following are secondary concerns, but should be considered:

  • The quality of the props
  • The quality of the instructions
  • The overall satisfaction with the product

Finally:

  • How accurate are the advertising claims and trailer?
  • How original is the effect?
  • How original is the method?

What is most meaningful for you?
